Matt Hughes is director of strategic narrative and advisor to the president at Roosevelt, where he leads the Institute’s narrative and editorial strategy, directs the editorial team, and ensures Roosevelt’s analysis drives policy and public debate.

Matt was previously a researcher in the Office of Joseph E. Stiglitz at Columbia University. His work has been covered by the New York Times, Politico, and Vox, and he is a contributing author of Creating Justice in a Multiracial Democracy: New Will for Evidence-Based Policies That Work (Teachers College Press, 2024). Matt holds an MPA in urban and social policy from Columbia University and a BA in economics and politics from New York University.
