As a fellow at Roosevelt Forward, Mark Paul integrates his work on inequality and environmental policy into Roosevelt’s efforts to build a stronger and more inclusive economy for the 21st century. His research is focused on understanding the causes and consequences of inequality and assessing and designing remedies to address it. He has written on many issues for Roosevelt, including automation, public banking, and the climate crisis.
Outside of Roosevelt, Paul serves as an assistant professor of economics and environmental studies at New College of Florida. He received his PhD in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and completed a postdoc at Duke University’s Cook Center on Social Equity. He’s currently working on a book project called Freedom Is Not Enough: Economic Rights for an Unequal World, under contract with Chicago University Press, to be published in 2022. His research and writing has appeared in the New York Times, The Economist, the Washington Post, the Financial Times, The Atlantic, Vox, The American Prospect, The Nation, The Hill, CNN, Washington Monthly, Forbes, Jacobin, and Dissent, among other publications.
