Cantwell F. Muckenfuss III is a retired partner in the D.C. office of Gibson Dunn focusing on regulation and public policy related to financial institutions. Previously, Mr. Muckenfuss was Senior Deputy Comptroller of the Currency for Policy and Counsel to the Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Mr. Muckenfuss is a founder and Chairman of the Board of City First Bank of D.C., a community development bank in Washington, and Chairman of City First Enterprises, Inc., the non-profit parent of City First Bank. He is an Operating Partner of Vista Capital Advisors, a member of the Board of Ethos Lending LLC and the advisory boards of several financial technology start-ups. He is a Clinical Visiting Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School.
Mr. Muckenfuss is a founder, former Chair and Board member of the Petra Foundation, which provided recognition and support to unsung individuals making distinctive contributions to racial justice, freedom and community development. He is a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative Task Force, a member of the Board of the Arts Arena International and Chair of the Advisory Council of the International Psychotherapy Institute.
Mr. Muckenfuss received his bachelor of arts degree from Vanderbilt University and his law degree from Yale Law School. He was law clerk to the Honorable William E. Miller of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and an attorney and developer at the Bedford-Stuyvesant D and S Corporation, a community development corporation.
